Diplomacy by Design

In the Fall of 2016, The U.S Department of State’s Office of Protocol and Elle Magazine hosted an intimate event at the Hay-Adam Hotel followed by a reception at the Blair House in Washington D.C. It was night of embracing and highlighting the culture and economic force that is fashion. Elle Magazine’s editor Robbie Myers, fashion designer Derek Lam, Washington Post fashion critic Robin Givhan, and President and CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America  Steven Kolb lead a discussion panel breaking down the influence fashion has on politics. T·H·E Artist Agency sponsored and supported the message of diplomacy by design by having our models showcase Derek Lam designs.

Fashion has increasingly become a topic of conversation in the world of politics. Embassies now hold jewelry and fashion shows, that let the public obtain a greater understanding and appreciation for foreign cultures. Over 80 countries  participated in the the diplomacy by design event, including  ambassadors from Belgium, Bulgaria, Cabo Verde, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Mauritius, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Serbia, Somalia, Timor-Leste, and Sri Lanka.

During the panel, former Secretary of State, John Kerry shared a video message with attendees about how fashion binds people with other cultures together. “The clothes we create, the food we eat, the sports we play and the traditions that we honor are all part of a nation’s identity and therefore an integral part of how countries relate to one another,” he said. The event shows how unified the fashion industry is, and how it is affected by not only each others different cultures, but also politics.

Saks Jandel to Close

A Washington D.C. luxury clothing and bridal boutique that survived generations of world affairs, the Depression, and economic recessions, will soon see its last day.

It is like a walk through Washington D.C.’s history, a glimpse into our city’s fashion evolution. While people might say that the District doesn’t have a foot in the fashion industry, Saks Jandel is a strong testament to prove them wrong.

Peter Marx, son of Ernest Marx, is the fourth-generation president of his family’s 128-year-old business. He is also the one overseeing its end as his focus shifts toward his real estate business..

T•H•E Artist Agency is proud to have partnered with Saks Jandel. We’ve collected a series of snapshots, as a tribute to our friends and collaborators at  Saks Jandel, of fashion shows our Models took pride in walking and our Wardrobe, Hair, and Makeup artists loved styling.

Sondra Hoffman – A DC Mover & Shaker!

Our shining star for over seven years, Sondra Hoffman, T•H•E’s head booker, is featured on this year’s Young & the Guest List Rising Stars 40 & Under.

THE list proves that politics isn’t the only game in town, and the Fashion Industry carries it’s own power.

From members of Congress and White House staffers to athletes, reporters, doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs and public relations powerhouses, it’s never hard to find people to add to our yearly compilation of the region’s movers and shakers age 40 and under. That’s due to the simple fact that there are so many younger people doing great things here.

We photographed close to 50 individuals for our 11th annual Young & the Guest List, which highlights more than 300 stars in their fields.

This is an election year, so many are involved in the political world. You’ll find portraits of and interviews with journalists who cover Capitol Hill and the White House, as well as political players on both sides of the aisle. Democratic Reps. Eric Swalwell and Ruben Gallego posed for us, as did their Republican colleagues, Reps. Will Hurd and Carlos Curbelo. New House Speaker Paul Ryan’s press secretary, AshLee Strong, also joined the throng along with the Republican National Committee’s Chief of Staff Katie Walsh and several officials now serving in the final year of the Obama administration.

Our list also proves that politics isn’t the only game in town. We’ve included chefs and restaurateurs – two of whom appeared on the latest season of Bravo’s “Top Chef.”  We showcase artists and photographers, doctors and philanthropists (like Bobby Gill, found of Cupid’s Undie Run and resent Runner’s World cover star) and top athletes from the Washington Capitals, D.C. United and Washington Mystics.

It’s a well-rounded, accomplished, inspiring and, dare we say, FUN group that defines youth, power and success in our great city.
